Citizen Leopard Super Beat 10 – Ref. 4-720369Y (March 1970)
28 Jewels | High Beat 36,000 A/h | Automatic | Stainless Steel | Rare Collector's Model
The Citizen Leopard Super Beat 10 is one of the most fascinating chapters in Japanese watchmaking history – developed at the height of the technological competition between Citizen and Seiko in the late 1960s.
While Seiko set standards with the Grand Seiko 61GS Hi-Beat and the King Seiko 45KS , Citizen responded with the Leopard series , a technically advanced line of sporty-elegant automatic watches.
The goal: highest precision in mechanical movements, paired with avant-garde design.
Within this series, the Super Beat 10 model represents the top segment – with a movement that operates at 36,000 semi-oscillations per hour and was in no way inferior to Seiko's Hi-Beat calibers in terms of smoothness and accuracy.

Historical background
The Citizen Leopard series was conceived from 1969 onwards as a direct competitor to Seiko's high-end mechanical lines (King Seiko / Grand Seiko).
While Seiko focused primarily on precision in the chronometer sector, Citizen combined sportier case shapes with high-beat technology and avant-garde dial designs in the Leopard.
The name “Super Beat 10” refers to the frequency of the clockwork (10 oscillations per second = 36,000 A/h).
The Leopard series was produced until about 1973, before Citizen shifted its focus to the revolutionary Chronomaster and later the Quartz Crystal lines.
Today, the Leopard models are considered key models of Japanese watchmaking, bridging classic mechanics and technological modernity – especially rare in good original condition.
