King Seiko 1st 15034 – Early High-Grade Mechanical (Japan, ca. 1963)

King Seiko 1st 15034 – Early High-Grade Mechanical (Japan, ca. 1963)

The King Seiko series marks a decisive turning point in Japanese watchmaking history. It originated in the early 1960s at the legendary Daini Seikosha manufacture as a direct competitor to the Grand Seiko , which was being developed concurrently at Suwa Seikosha. Both lines were created with the goal of propelling Seiko to the forefront of mechanical precision worldwide – and the rivalry between these two workshops laid the foundation for the technological rise of the Seiko brand.

The model presented here, a King Seiko Diashock 25 Jewels (Ref. 15034), belongs to the first generations of this long-established series. It is distinguished by its elegantly proportioned case, the champagne-colored dial with its authentic, finely even patina, and the applied faceted gold indices.
The polished, gold-plated case bears the raised King Seiko crest on the base, a symbol of the highest manufacturing quality of the early 1960s.

Inside, the highly precise Seiko 54A caliber is at work – a finely regulated hand-wound movement with 25 jewels and Diashock shock protection system.

Historical significance

The King Seiko series was introduced in 1961 and set new standards for accuracy and finishing of Japanese movements. It was Seiko's first systematically regulated chronometer line, running parallel to the Grand Seiko – a symbol of the rivalry between Suwa and Daini Seikosha , which propelled Japan into the world elite of watchmaking.

These early models with the coat of arms emblem on the case back are now sought-after collector's items, as they represent the birth phase of Japanese high-end watchmaking.
