Design and background
The 5625-7000 model belongs to the later generation of the King Seiko series , manufactured in the Daini movement . The watch combines classic Japanese understatement with the highest precision: clean lines, sharp edges, and a case in the style of the "Grammar of Design," developed for Seiko by Taro Tanaka.
The caliber 5625A used in this watch is a true high-beat movement with 28,800 vibrations per hour – designed for maximum accuracy and stability. It belongs to the same movement family as the 56KS caliber, which was also used in later Grand Seiko models.
Historical context
The King Seiko was created in the early 1960s as a direct competitor to the Grand Seiko – both series served to demonstrate Seiko's technical capabilities at the highest level.
While the Grand Seiko was produced at the Suwa factory, the Daini factory manufactured the King Seiko – an internal competition that led to enormous progress in precision and finishing.
The 5625-7000 Hi-Beat offered here marks the transition to the late 1960s, when Seiko dominated international chronometer competitions. With its minimalist dial, distinctive case shape, and robust movement, it is considered one of the last purely mechanical masterpieces before the quartz era .
Condition
The watch is in good, original condition with age-appropriate signs of wear. The dial is clean and even, and the case has sharp edges. The movement runs accurately. The leather strap is new and unworn.
