The Seiko Presage HCC007J1 was created to mark Seiko's 145th anniversary and is limited to 1,500 pieces worldwide. At its heart is an exceptional dial made of genuine Arita porcelain, which for the first time in a Presage features a cobalt blue glaze.

The hue is firmly rooted in traditional Arita ceramics and at the same time recalls the so-called "Seiko Blue". This distinctive corporate color originated in the 1960s, was developed over decades, and still stands for the brand's identity and pioneering spirit today.

Arita Porcelain – Japanese craftsmanship with centuries of history

Arita, located on the Japanese island of Kyushu, developed into an important center for porcelain production at the beginning of the 17th century after suitable raw material for its manufacture was discovered in the region. Arita porcelain was valued early on for its high craftsmanship and artistic quality.

The dials of the HCC007J1 are created by a traditional manufacturer in Arita, whose roots date back to 1830. Under the supervision of Arita porcelain master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi, they are made by kiln master Toshiaki Kawaguchi and his team. Kawaguchi has deepened his knowledge of this demanding process over years under Hashiguchi's guidance.

The production involves several precisely controlled molding and firing processes and requires great experience and patience. For use in a wristwatch, Seiko uses a specially developed porcelain material that is more than four times more resistant than conventional porcelain.

Design and Character

The cobalt blue glaze has a distinct transparency and optical depth. A radial pattern in the center of the dial highlights the fine color gradients of the glaze. The carefully coordinated interplay of raised and recessed surfaces ensures that the dial's effect changes with the incidence of light.

Implementing the deep cobalt blue glaze on a comparatively thin dial presented a particular technical challenge. Glaze, structure, and color effect had to be coordinated so that the pattern remained clearly visible without overpowering the calm appearance of the porcelain.

Due to the handcrafted production and firing at high temperatures, fine depressions, tiny dots, or slight differences in color and surface can occur. These are characteristic features of genuine Arita porcelain and make each dial unique.

The newly developed stainless steel case was designed to particularly emphasize the spatial effect and depth of the porcelain dial. Together with the double-domed sapphire crystal, a clear and elegant profile in the understated style of the Presage Classic Series is created.
