Seiko Prospex King Samurai "Shu-iro" SRPH61K1 – Limited Edition, Europe Exclusive, 3,500 pieces

Red was the most striking color on the battlefield – and that is precisely why the Japanese naval forces, the "Suigun," wore their armor in "Shu-iro," a deep vermilion. Those who wore this color displayed courage and passed it on to their troops. Seiko has used this history as the foundation for one of the most distinctive Prospex special editions of recent years.

Limited, Europe-exclusive, long sold out

The SRPH61K1 was released as a Limited Edition of 3,500 pieces and was available exclusively in Europe – an unusual configuration for Seiko that makes the watch sought-after in the international collector market to this day. It has long been unavailable through regular retail channels. This specimen bears the limitation number 1994/3500, engraved on the case back.

King Samurai – the sharpest case design in the Prospex lineup

Collectors call this version the "King Samurai": The upper side of the case consists of sharply drawn surfaces, as if cut by a sword, and the strongly protruding lugs evoke the silhouette of samurai armor. Even the flank of the bezel features a fine diamond pattern – an allusion to the wrapping of a Japanese sword hilt.

The dial is not simply painted red, but features an embossed grid structure that shifts between rich vermilion and dark wine red depending on the light. The hands and indices are gold-colored, providing a warm contrast.

Technically a step above the standard Samurai

The limited version received features not found on the production model: sapphire crystal with a date magnifier and internal anti-reflective coating instead of the usual Hardlex, as well as a ceramic insert in the bezel. It is powered by the Seiko caliber 4R35 with manual winding and hacking seconds.

This specimen

The condition is very good. The included black silicone strap is unworn and still has the original protective film attached – the previous owner used only the steel bracelet.

Measured on a timegrapher – everything is in order: +10 seconds/day at an amplitude of 297° (dial up, 21,600 vph). Both values are comfortably within the factory specifications for the 4R35 caliber – and an amplitude of this magnitude is only achieved by a movement with an undisturbed flow of power from the mainspring to the escapement. In short: put it on and wear it.

The watch was purchased on February 28, 2023, from a German jeweler; the original purchase invoice is included and is issued to the original buyer. It documents the origin of the watch, not the chain of subsequent owners.
