Seiko Venus – Diashock 17 Jewels – Hand-wound ladies' wristwatch (November 1965)
Rare rectangular Seiko Venus Diashock 17 Jewels , manufactured in the mid-1960s.
This elegant ladies' model combines the geometric design language of early post-war modernism with Seiko's technical precision and fine hand-wound movement.
Historical background
The Seiko Venus series was launched in the early 1960s as an elegant dress watch collection for women. It was characterized by finely gold-plated cases, clean lines, and the use of the proven Diashock shock protection system .
The name “Venus” deliberately alluded to Western design ideals and the increasing export of Japanese watches, while the movement used was entirely designed and assembled in Japan.
The example shown here (serial number 5N02401 ) was produced in 1965 and bears the engraving “EGP – 20 Microns – Back Steel” on the case back, indicating the high-quality gold plating and stainless steel case back. The rectangular, hand-wound movement used exhibits the fine finishing of that era, with 17 jewels and robust mechanics.
