Casio Fist MD-785 – JDM -Blue Dial, Integrated Steel Bracelet

A very rare Casio that few would recognize as a Casio: a compact stainless steel tonneau case, integrated link bracelet, blue gradient dial – and a model line that never left the Japanese market and is rarely offered today.

The dial bears the FIST and CASIO signatures as well as the inscriptions WR 20BAR and JAPAN MOVT. The case back is embossed with FIST CASIO, the model number MD-785, the identifier 705, and the inscriptions STAINLESS STEEL, WATER RESISTANT 20BAR, JAPAN MOV'T, and CASED IN CHINA. The deployant clasp is also embossed with FIST CASIO.

Fist – Casio's Analog Side

In Europe, Casio is practically synonymous with digital watches. However, in the Japanese domestic market, the company maintained analog lines for decades that never made it to retail here. Fist is one of these lines: compact analog watches with quartz movements, integrated bracelets, and high water resistance.

These models are difficult to find today. They were produced in limited numbers and exclusively for the Japanese market, were used daily there, and were mostly disposed of after use rather than kept – the classic survival rate of a utility watch without collector status. Only with the rediscovery of 1990s Japanese analog Casios has demand increased, while the supply naturally has not grown. We specifically acquired this piece.

Also noteworthy is the 20 bar water resistance rating – a remarkably high value for a watch of this size and original price range, indicating that no expense was spared in the case construction.

Please note: The case back indicates the movement is Japanese-made, while the case assembly took place in China. We explicitly state this.

Design

The rectangular dial with rounded corners is a deep blue, with a gradient from a light, almost silvery edge to a rich center. In glancing light, the light area moves across the surface, so the color shifts between navy blue and a light steel blue depending on the angle.

On this surface are simple stick indices, along with slender silver hands and a fine second hand. The inscriptions are limited to what is necessary. The polished stainless steel case frames the dial in a wide, curved tonneau shape and transitions directly into the integrated link bracelet without lugs – a continuous line typical of the design language of integrated sports watches.

With a dial opening of 27.6 × 27.1 millimeters, the watch is compact; however, the case contour is significantly wider, making it appear larger on the wrist than its dimensions suggest.

Dating

The case back bears the model number MD-785 and the identifier 705, but no serial number datable by a publicly documented system. Reliable dating is not possible on this basis.

Condition

The dial is in very good condition: the color gradient is even, there are no spots or discolorations, and all imprints are sharp. The indices are firm, and the hands are complete and undamaged. The crystal is clear and free of distracting scratches.

The polished case shows signs of wear and polishing, which are unavoidable with polished surfaces. The screwed case back has several clear scratches, including a longer diagonal line; all engravings remain fully legible. The integrated steel bracelet is complete and shows light signs of use; the signed deployant clasp closes securely.

This is a used item. The limitation period for defect claims under the statutory warranty is 12 months from delivery.

The original WR 20BAR marking refers to the watch's new condition. Due to its age and untested gaskets, no current water resistance is guaranteed. To protect the movement, the watch should not come into contact with water or moisture.
