Citizen Cony Parashock Ladies' Watch (Japan, December 1961)
Citizen Cony Parashock Ladies' Watch (Japan, December 1961)
The Citizen Cony Parashock is a refined, rectangular ladies' watch from the early 1960s – a time when Citizen was systematically developing its mechanical movements while offering elegant models for everyday wear and formal occasions. The Cony line was specifically designed for women who valued style and reliability.
The two-tone case, with its gold-tone front and stainless steel back, showcases the typical design language of the era: delicate, feminine proportions, clean lines, and finely beveled lugs. The gold-plated dial with applied indices and gold hands bears the inscription "Citizen Parashock – 17 Jewels," indicating the in-house shock-protected, hand-wound movement. This Parashock technology was a Citizen proprietary development, considered in the 1950s and 60s to be Japan's answer to the Swiss Incabloc system.
The newly fitted dark brown calfskin strap with crocodile embossing blends in particularly harmoniously, underscoring the watch's classic character while offering modern wearing comfort. With its light weight and compact proportions, the watch sits elegantly and unobtrusively on the wrist.
The watch is in good, original condition with an authentic patina that emphasizes its vintage charm. It is a fine example of Citizen's 1960s design aesthetic – simple, functional, and perfectly formed.
