Since the 1990s, Citizen's Independent line has been deliberately positioned as a design-oriented alternative to the classic model series. The focus is on experimental forms, striking colors, and an urban, sometimes intentionally "industrial" style.
The model presented here is unusually consistently implemented within this line: a large case, a strong material presence, and a rare color combination of black and violet. Especially for a Japanese watch of this category, the 42 mm diameter is remarkable and makes the watch very wearable even for larger wrists.
The multi-layered construction with a clearly contrasting violet rehaut ring, which is echoed in the hands, is a defining design element. The block-like indices and the matte, dark surface create a very clear, almost architectural effect.
The built-in quartz movement (calibre 4357) corresponds to the typical Citizen approach: high reliability, low maintenance, and precise timekeeping. The original, black-coated metal bracelet perfectly complements the massive case both visually and haptically and contributes significantly to the overall impression of the watch.
The overall condition is very good, with only slight signs of wear typical for its age. Such a state of preservation is particularly noteworthy for coated cases.
