The case back bears the engraving CITIZEN WATCH CO., the markings WATER RESISTANT and ALL STAINLESS STEEL, the case reference 4-140427 TA, the case number 3101033, and the identifiers GN-4W-S and JAPAN. The dial is marked CITIZEN QUARTZ and SEVEN STAR.

Seven Star – a name in transition

Seven Star accompanied Citizen through the technological upheaval of the watch industry. The line started in the mechanical era and was carried over into the quartz era — the same designation, the same winged emblem, a completely different inner life.

This is precisely what makes this example so appealing: it is a quartz watch that still carries the design language and case construction of its mechanical predecessors. Solid steel, strong lugs, classic dial with a full chapter ring. Collectors who appreciate the transitional phase between the two movement technologies will find an unpretentious but eloquent example here.

Design

A silver-colored dial with a fine sunray brush, featuring a full Arabic numeral chapter ring in a slightly playful, serif-heavy font. The CITIZEN QUARTZ lettering is below the 12, the winged Seven-Star emblem with the SEVEN STAR lettering is above the 6.

The hands are slender and dark, the seconds hand is a hairline. The round solid steel case has a narrow polished bezel; the steel expansion bracelet features a brushed and polished alternating texture.

Dating

The case number 3101033 follows Citizen's system, with the last digit of the year first. The month cannot be clearly determined from the sequence of digits, so both January and October are possible. This only confirms a year ending in 3; in conjunction with the older reference system 4-140427 and the case shape, this points to 1983. We provide this as an indication, not as a confirmed dating.

Condition and Origin

The watch comes from Japan and was inspected and fitted with a new battery before sale.

This is a used original. The chapter ring and lettering are complete. In the lower left dial area, approximately between 7 and 8, there are several dark spots; these are age-related dial changes clearly visible in the product photos. The rest of the dial surface is even.

The crystal shows fine scratches. The solid steel case is undamaged, with signs of wear and polishing on the bezel and lugs. The case back shows circumferential scuff marks, the engraving is fully legible. The steel expansion bracelet is used and functional.
