Citizen Seven Star V2 Automatic 21 Jewels – Ref. 4-720776 TA – Parawater – freshly serviced in Japan

In the late 1960s, the Seven Star line was part of Citizen's offensive in the premium mid-range segment – the same space occupied by the King Rotor and Log Master. Within this line, the V2 version is the most refined: consistently built for legibility, featuring a full calendar and a Parawater case.

Classification

At Citizen, the "Seven" emblem with the crown denotes their better automatic movements. The Seven Star series represented robust utility watches with full calendar displays and Parawater cases—Citizen’s own term for water-resistant construction, used until about 1970.

The case back of this example is fully signed: "CITIZEN · PARAWATER · STAINLESS STEEL · GN-3-S", followed by the reference 4-720776 TA, the mention "AUTOMATIC," and the serial number 00800077. Following Citizen’s numbering system—last digit of the year, then month—this points to August 1970.

Overhauled and ready to wear

The watch was professionally overhauled in Japan before we acquired it.

Design and character

The dial is finished in a deep charcoal that shifts between gray and black depending on the light. It features bold, applied rectangular indices with light-colored filling—a design element that significantly improves distance legibility while giving the watch a very distinct, technical character. The "CITIZEN" signature is applied in block letters at 12 o'clock, with "SEVEN STAR / V2 / 21 JEWELS" below it at 6 o'clock.

The day and date share a common white-backed double window at 3 o'clock. The case is an angular tonneau shape with wide, polished flanks and recessed, integrated lugs—a typical design language at the transition from the late sixties to the early seventies. The grooved crown is recessed between the case edges for protection.

With a diameter of 35.7 mm, a lug-to-lug length of 41.6 mm, and a height of 11.2 mm, the watch is compactly shaped and fits even narrower wrists. Its 55 grams feel pleasant due to the solid stainless steel case. It is a watch that works immediately on the wrist: dark dial, bold indices, full calendar. Clear, calm, and suitable for everyday wear.

Condition

The case shows light signs of wear consistent with its age. The watch comes on a black leather strap.

Operating note: The day and date quick-set feature should not be operated between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.; please set the hands to approximately 6 o'clock beforehand.
