The Essence Ceramica “Dark Matter” is one of Formex ’s most extraordinary watches. It combines modern Swiss high technology with a material older than the Earth itself. The deep dark dial is made of genuine Muonionalusta iron meteorite, which impacted north of the Arctic Circle several ice ages ago. Formed over millions of years in the silent cold of space, each dial features a unique Widmanstätten pattern – geometric crystal structures that are never repeated.

After precise cutting and etching, the meteorite is treated with dark nickel, which vividly highlights its crystalline structure. Depending on the light, the surface appears deep graphite-colored or displays metallic reflections. Unlike typical meteorite or stone dials, the Dark Matter dial is made from a single, solid piece of material. The dial feet are soldered directly to the base, allowing for greater material thickness and a fully milled, beveled date window at 6 o'clock – uncompromising, technically and visually exceptional.

The extremely scratch-resistant case made of black zirconium oxide ceramic provides the perfect setting for this cosmic material. Vertically brushed surfaces and diamond-cut bevels create a vibrant interplay of light, giving the watch a striking presence despite its dark appearance. Gunmetal-finished indices and hands appear to float above the dial, while BGW9 Super-LumiNova® ensures subtle legibility in the dark. The tone-on-tone date window integrates harmoniously into the meteorite-like structure without disrupting it.

Inside, the bespoke Soprod Newton P092 automatic caliber, developed to Formex's specifications, powers the watch. Its symmetrical 6/12 o'clock architecture positions the balance wheel at 6 o'clock beneath a cross-bridge, ensuring exceptional robustness in conjunction with the Incabloc double-cone shock protection system. Each movement undergoes the Chronofiable® endurance test and is subsequently certified as a chronometer by the COSC. The modern finishing, featuring laser-textured bridges, electroplated black gold treatment, thermally blued screws, and a skeletonized rotor, is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. Each watch is delivered with an individual COSC certificate and an engraved chronometer number.

Another highlight is the full ceramic bracelet with the world's first micro-adjustable ceramic clasp. The patented system allows for fine adjustments of several millimeters in seconds, entirely without tools and without opening the clasp. Wearing comfort is further enhanced by Formex's signature patented case suspension system, which absorbs shocks and flexibly adapts the watch to the movements of the wrist.
