About this watch
The Space Gold is an extraordinary special edition, featuring a dial made from genuine Muonionalusta meteorite, subsequently galvanized with 18-carat rose gold – a milestone in modern dial manufacturing. The precious metal enhances the natural depth of the Widmanstätten pattern and gives the dial a warm, elegant glow, making each watch a distinctive one-of-a-kind piece.
A meteorite on your wrist
Approximately four ice ages ago, a massive iron meteorite entered Earth's atmosphere and impacted a remote area north of the Arctic Circle – at 67°49' N, 23°9' E in northern Scandinavia. The discovery area spans 25 × 15 km but is frozen for much of the year and covered in darkness for months. Recovering meteorite fragments is therefore extremely challenging.
The Muonionalusta meteorite consists of an iron-based alloy that cooled extremely slowly over millions of years. This process altered the crystalline structure within the asteroid and formed the famous equilateral triangles of the Widmanstätten pattern – a natural phenomenon that cannot be artificially reproduced.
Each dial is therefore an absolute unique piece.
From raw material to golden dial
To reveal the beauty of this ancient material, special processing steps are necessary. After grinding, the untreated meteorite is galvanically coated with 18K rose gold – a process only possible due to its high iron content and considered groundbreaking in this form.
Unlike PVD coatings, which are common for colored meteorite dials, this creates a genuine precious metal layer that enhances the depth, structure, and luster of the meteorite.
Another technical breakthrough: The dial feet are soldered directly onto the meteorite, instead of a brass plate. This allowed for an angled date window to be integrated directly into the dial – a characteristic Formex design element.
This innovation resulted from intensive development cycles at the in-house dial manufacture in the Swiss Jura.
Dial & Hands
After processing, a mere 0.65 mm thin disc is created, displaying the natural Widmanstätten pattern in golden depth.
The applied indices and hands are made of gunmetal, deeply filled with Super‑LumiNova® BGW9, and highly polished on the bevels – for optimal readability day and night.
Movement
Inside, a Sellita SW200‑1 of the highest quality, Swiss Made and fully decorated, operates. The specially developed, skeletonized Formex rotor efficiently winds the movement.
Each movement is COSC-certified and undergoes the strict 15-day chronometer test to ensure exceptional precision.
Case Suspension System
Since 1999, the patented case suspension has been a hallmark of Formex. Four springs between the upper and lower case parts act as miniature shock absorbers and fulfill two central functions:
– Protection of the mechanical movement from strong shocks
– Noticeably higher wearing comfort due to flexible case movement
The system absorbs stress and provides an incomparably comfortable wearing experience – unique in the watch market.
Carbon Composite Clasp with Fine Adjustment
The new carbon folding clasp is made entirely of Formex's patented carbon composite, is extremely lightweight, durable, and intuitive to operate.
The fine adjustment can be made directly on the wrist – ideal for changing temperatures or activities.
Straps & Steel Bracelet
– Italian calf leather or rubber, with curved spring bars
– Quick Release for tool-free change
– Carbon folding clasp with patented fine adjustment
– Stainless steel bracelet with hidden micro-extension
– All straps interchangeable in seconds
39 mm Stainless Steel Case
The Essence ThirtyNine was inspired by high-performance motorcycles and racing vehicles. The slim 10 mm profile, ergonomic lugs, and vertical brushed finish with polished bevels create a sporty-elegant aesthetic.
The same high-quality finish is found on the stainless steel bracelet, folding clasp, hands, indices, and the applied Formex logo.
Super‑LumiNova® BGW9 ensures excellent readability at night.
