INDEN est. 1582 is the oldest manufacturer of Koshu Inden – lacquered deerskin from Kofu, Japan. For over 400 years, soft deerskin has been finished with Japanese lacquer, a technique originally used for samurai armor and equipment. The exterior is made of soft, supple deerskin with a patent finish, while the interior is lined with robust cowhide. The GR x GR (green on green) color combination is subtle yet distinctive, beautifully highlighting the traditional Shippou pattern in the light. The "New Seven Treasures" motif references the seven treasures of Buddhism: silver, gold, coral, lapis lazuli, agate, shell, and amber.
