WANCHER – Japanese writing culture with depth
The Japan Blue Fountain Pen is a collaborative project of three traditional Japanese companies from Oita – Wancher Inc., Nagao Seisakusho Co., Ltd., and Oita Made. The goal was to create a fountain pen that not only writes but also embodies Japanese heritage – in color, form, and material. The result is a writing instrument that perfectly captures the aesthetic concept of Wa (和 – harmony).
Japan Blue Fountain Pen – Tradition in color and form
The striking deep blue barrel of the Japan Blue Fountain Pen is not simply lacquered, but colored using a unique anodizing process with natural Japanese indigo . The color shifts depending on the light and does not change over time. This is the first time this coloring technique has been used for a fountain pen in Japan.
The surface of the barrel is inspired by a traditional Japanese blacksmithing technique: Tankin (鍛金) – the art of hammering, as once used for the tsuba (sword crossguards) of the samurai. Every texture on the barrel is the result of meticulous handwork, making each pen unique.
