King Seiko represents one of the most exciting periods in Japanese watchmaking history. In the 1960s and early 1970s, Seiko was engaged in an internal, deliberately fostered competition between two manufactures: Daini Seikosha and Suwa Seikosha. While Suwa shaped the early Grand Seiko models, Daini simultaneously developed the King Seiko line – with its own distinctive design language, uncompromising technical quality, and the clear ambition to deliver mechanical precision at the highest level.

The reference 5621-7000 is a typical and at the same time particularly attractive result of this Daini school: an elegant, flat Hi-Beat automatic with a cushion-shaped case, a clearly structured dial, and the characteristic restraint that distinguishes King Seiko from Grand Seiko – no less high-quality, but more subtle in appearance.

These models from the early 1970s are still considered underrated alternatives in terms of price to contemporary Grand Seiko references, yet technically they are absolutely on par.
