King Seiko Hi-Beat 5626-5060 (July 1972) – Full service Nov 2025 / exceptional condition
This rare King Seiko Hi-Beat 5626-5060 dates from July 1972 (serial number 27xxxx). It is among the most technically sophisticated and highest-quality models that Seiko produced in the 1970s outside of the Grand Seiko line. The exceptionally crisp case finishing, the highly precise Hi-Beat caliber, and the superb condition make this a watch for discerning collectors.
In November 2025, the watch was completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled, and regulated in Japan. The result is a technically and visually superb condition. The case displays the characteristic, sharp-edged KS architecture, which is extremely rare today and has been preserved in this quality.
A new original Seiko leather strap is fitted, which perfectly matches the angular design of the 5626 series.
Historical Background – King Seiko
King Seiko was the line produced by the Daini factory , while Grand Seiko was developed in parallel at the Suwa factory . Both Seiko factories were engaged in a technical rivalry ("Suwa vs. Daini") that elevated Japanese watchmaking to a world-class level in the 1960s and 1970s.
King Seiko was characterized by:
- extremely precise works,
- Angular, clearly defined case shapes,
- technically sophisticated high-beat calibers,
- high manufacturing quality
from and was for a long time the preferred choice of many specialist retailers and watchmakers in Japan.
The 56KS series, to which this model belongs, is considered the last and most mature KS generation before King Seiko was discontinued in 1975.
The Caliber 5626 – High-end automatic movement
The Calibre 5626 is one of the best automatic movements that Seiko has ever produced outside of the Grand Seiko series:
- Hi-Beat 28,800 A/h for high rate stability
- automatic and manual winding options
- Quick-adjust date and day of the week
- Japanese day of the week (Kanji)
- very robust and exceptionally service-friendly
A 5626 with a professional overhaul like this one is technically designed to last for decades.
Reference 5626-5060 – Rare angular KS architecture
The 5060 reference is significantly rarer than the more well-known 701x models. Its characteristic features are:
- Angular, geometric case design
- short, squat flanks
- an unusually compact, balanced form
- Perfect wearability despite the Hi-Beat technology
- significantly lower production figures than the KS standard references
Sharp edges (“Zaratsu-like” surfaces) are typical, but extremely rare to find in this condition – therefore, this piece is a special collector's item.
