King Seiko Chronometer Hi-Beat 5626-7041 (June 1973) – Full service 2025/exceptional condition

Description

This exceptionally well-preserved King Seiko Chronometer 5626-7041 dates from August 1973 (serial number 368248 : 3 = 1973, 6 = June). The watch is one of the rare, officially certified KS Chronometer models , equipped with the legendary Hi-Beat automatic movement caliber 5626 with 28,800 A/h.

The case represents late King Seiko design with a clean, angular form based on Taro Tanaka's "Grammar of Design": geometric surfaces, sharp lines, and excellent light reflections on the polished edges. The watch is in very good original condition – with crisp edges and no significant wear to the case architecture.

In November 2025, the watch was completely disassembled, cleaned, and professionally overhauled in Japan. It runs perfectly and is ready for immediate use.

A new, high-quality Seiko leather strap with crocodile embossing is fitted (original Seiko, label present).

King Seiko – Background & Historical Context

King Seiko is a central chapter in Japanese watchmaking history and originated from the famous rivalry between the two Seiko factories:

  • Suwa Seikosha – responsible for the early Grand Seiko models

  • Daini Seikosha – responsible for King Seiko

Both manufacturers competed for the highest precision, craftsmanship, and design quality. From this rivalry, Seiko developed some of Japan's finest mechanical watches in the 1960s and 1970s. The KS series became a precise and robust alternative to Grand Seiko, offering numerous chronometer models, high-beat calibers, and premium finishes.

The reference 5626-7041 is one of the technically sophisticated, late KS models with a certified chronometer movement , making it a collector's item.
