Kuretake Kindai Maki-e – Ryuu to Houju

The Kuretake Kindai Maki-e series brings traditional Japanese symbolism to the fountain pen using modern Maki-e techniques. The "Ryuu to Houju" ("Dragon and Sacred Pearl") model features a powerful motif from Japanese mythology: The venerable dragon – a symbol of wisdom, strength, and good fortune – guards the magical pearl, which represents fulfillment, power, and spiritual enlightenment.

The design is executed using the traditional Kindai Maki-e technique and protected with a clear Urushi coating. This creates a fascinating interplay of symbolism, color, and light reflection – embedded in an elegant, everyday writing instrument.

The pen body is manufactured from a single piece of aluminum using a deep-drawing process. The shape is seamless, lightweight yet robust – perfectly balanced for everyday use.
