To celebrate the first international Kurono Salon in Shanghai, Hajime Asaoka presents a strictly limited small series: the Chronograph P1 Shanghai Special Edition.
It is the brand's first date-less chronograph – a purist masterpiece that showcases Asaoka's design philosophy in its purest form.

Concept & Special Features

The letter P in the name stands for Purists – as collectors had been requesting a version without a date since the first Chronograph 1.
However, a date-less chronograph is much more than just removing a window: the development required years of prototyping and an extensive modification of the movement.

Hajime Asaoka personally revised the base caliber and developed a single-stage crown construction that harmonizes perfectly with the new dial.
The result is a chronograph designed uncompromisingly for aesthetics, clarity, and function.

In-house modified NE86PWT

The Chronograph P1 is powered by the in-house modified NE86PWT – a vertical clutch and column-wheel chronograph movement valued for its robustness and precision.

Asaoka not only removed the date mechanism but also adapted the crown function and internal components.
This complex modification requires many hours of watchmaking and is the reason why the P1 was produced only once.

Dial – Purism in Perfection

The dial dispenses entirely with a date, resulting in an exceptionally clear and balanced appearance.

Design features:

• white main dial with radial medium-carmine gradient, created using the elaborate pointillism technique
• black sub-dials for maximum readability
• high-polished Gothic numerals at 12 and 6 – inspired by the Calendrier series
• harmonious three-color palette of carmine red, white, and black

Hands – Craftsmanship & Tradition

The hands are typical Kurono:

• high-polished leaf hands for hours and minutes
• hand-curved tips, adapted to the curvature of the dial and crystal
• guilloché 9-o'clock sub-dial hand in the shape of a traditional Japanese Kyudo arrow

The different hand shapes are reminiscent of high-quality chronographs from the 1950s and 1960s – an era that Asaoka particularly appreciates.
