Orient Automatic - burgundy dial, rectangular case 26.5 x 31.1 mm, disc display

Orient is one of the three major Japanese watch manufacturers and has always been the brand for mechanical watches with a unique character. While Seiko and Citizen offered broad ranges, Orient repeatedly dared to create designs that would not have passed through committees elsewhere – unusual case shapes, bold colors, unconventional display principles. Since 2017, Orient has been wholly owned by Seiko Epson and continues to manufacture automatic movements of its own development to this day.

The case back bears the signature ORIENT WATCH CO., LTD. · AUTOMATIC · W.R. 5 BAR · ST. STEEL with the model identification NRAK-A1 CA and the number 930414. 

Design and Character

The dial is two-toned: a bright yellow disk sector sits on a wine-red background, with the numerals appearing in an arc segment. Thus, time is not displayed via classic hands, but via rotating disks – a display principle developed in the 1970s as a counter-design to the conventional watch. A fine, continuous scale and the four visible case screws at the corners give the whole a technical, instrumental touch.

The case measures 26.5 × 31.1 mm with a height of 13 mm, making it distinctly compact – the watch sits smaller on the wrist than the dial's appearance suggests. At 49 grams and with the wide 20mm lug width, a deliberately top-heavy proportion is created, typical of the design language of this style.

In very good condition, lightly worn, with original brown leather strap, the leather strap has been cleaned and disinfected.
