This Orient DISK "Rainbow Disk" with reference ER02-CA-B (Japanese sales reference WV0821ER) is one of the most unusual production models in modern Orient history. The model appeared in 2013 and was produced for only a relatively short time.

At its core is a very distinctive display concept: the watch does not have a classic hour hand, but a rotating hour disk with an aperture, beneath which lies a colored ring. As the disk moves throughout the day, the display transitions through various colors – creating the characteristic "Rainbow Disk" effect, which gave this model series its name.

The result is a watch that deliberately sets itself apart from classic dress or sports watches and can rather be understood as a design statement of Japanese watchmaking.

The dial – rotating hour disk

The white dial is deliberately minimalist in design, so that the actual highlight takes center stage: the rotating hour disk in the center of the dial.

The aperture of this disk marks the respective hour position. Beneath it lies a colored ring, whose segments become visible throughout the day:

Green → Blue → Navy → Purple → Red → Orange → Yellow

This constantly changes the color impression of the watch – an effect that makes these models particularly striking within the Orient collection.

The design combines a minimalist layout with a playful color concept, making this reference one of the most characteristic Orient design watches of the 2010s.

Case and finish

The stainless steel case has modern proportions and looks sporty yet elegant. With a diameter of over 41 mm, the watch wears prominently, but remains pleasantly flat with its moderate height.

The screwed display case back with green tinted glass allows a view of the automatic movement and is one of the striking design features of this series.

This particular example is in almost mint condition and is fitted with the original Orient steel bracelet.

Orient – Japanese manufacture with in-house movement production

The brand Orient Watch Co. Ltd. was founded in Tokyo in 1950 and is now part of the Seiko-Epson Group.

Within the Japanese watch industry, Orient is particularly known for:

Due to their unusual design and relatively short production period, they are now considered interesting collector's items among modern Orient models.

The reference WV0821ER was predominantly distributed via the Japanese market and is therefore considered a Japan-market model, which was usually available outside Japan via imports.
