OUTLINE | Kikuchi | - Watches with character, created by one of Japan's most influential watch experts, Yoshimasa Kikuchi
Behind OUTLINE is none other than Yoshimasa Kikuchi – publisher of Japan's leading watch magazines such as Power Watch, LowBEAT, and Time Gear. For decades, he has followed, tested, and written about the world of watches – until he decided to realize his own vision. With OUTLINE , he creates watches that embody the spirit of the 1940s to 1970s: a tribute to the golden age of mechanical watches, stylishly reinterpreted for today.
The name says it all – OUTLINE stands for clear lines, timeless style and what makes a watch: character, history and quality.
The long-awaited fourth installment of the collaborative project between OUTLINE and the select shop "TiCTAC" is the Outline GMT-1950. It is Outline's first Japanese-made mechanical watch with a full GMT function. Only 200 of these watches were produced in a limited edition.
This masterpiece is based on an iconic 1950s model that became a brand symbol. The two-tone blue and red bezel, which distinguishes day and night, has been meticulously crafted with an antique flair. Particular attention was paid to the coloring: the colors do not fade, yet remain subtle and authentic.
The top of the bezel is covered with transparent plastic. In the 1950s, GMT watches were often coated with Bakelite, which is extremely rare today. This look has been reinterpreted to recapture vintage charm. The plastic coating gives the bezel a deep, unique color that cannot be achieved with conventional aluminum inserts.
Technically, the watch is based on the Miyota caliber 9075 from Citizen's 9000 series, an automatic GMT movement. A special feature is the independent adjustment of the hour hand, similar to the Rolex GMT-Master II. This allows for convenient setting of home and travel time – ideal for frequent travelers.
What does "independently adjustable hour hand" mean?
Unlike other GMT watches where only the GMT and minute hands are adjustable, this model allows the hour hand to remain set separately while the local time is adjusted. This makes it the perfect travel and globetrotter watch.
