Q&Q Falcon 2115 - JDM Quartz with Date - Citizen Sub-brand from Japan

A Japanese utility watch that pretends to be nothing it isn't: large numerals, a date window, a quartz movement – and a case that costs exactly what it should.

The watch bears the dial identifier D014-204 and the case back identifier 2115. The case back is embossed with the Q&Q logo, as well as the inscriptions BASE METAL, STAINLESS STEEL BACK, and WATER RESIST.

Q&Q and the Falcon Line

Q&Q is Citizen's secondary brand for inexpensive, robust utility watches. While Citizen produced technically sophisticated lines, Q&Q catered to the mass market from the 1970s onwards: simple quartz movements, uncomplicated cases, good readability.

Within this program, the Falcon line represents no-frills analog models suitable for everyday use. These models are interesting for collectors of Japanese watches because they illustrate a side of the Japanese watch industry that is hardly noticed outside Japan – the market below the prestige brands, where the volumes were generated that financed the development of the expensive lines in the first place.

Please note: The case is made of base metal; only the case back is made of stainless steel. We explicitly state this because such cases are visually indistinguishable from stainless steel.

Design

The white dial features large, boldly set Arabic numerals in a slightly playful font with flared serifs at 2 and 4 – a detail that gives the models in this series their own character. A fine minute track with bar markers at the quarter-hour positions frames the dial.

A black-bordered date window is located to the right below the 3. The slender, silver hands maintain the overall calm appearance; the seconds hand reaches into the minute track. The brand name Falcon is written in cursive below the 12, and WATER RESIST is indicated above the 6.

The round, polished case is slim and measures 35.1 millimeters without the crown and a height of only 9.1 millimeters – dimensions that are again in demand today. The watch comes with the included metal bracelet.

Dating

There is no serial number. The case back only bears the movement/model identifier 2115. A reliable dating is not possible on this basis.

Condition

The dial is clean, without stains or discoloration; all imprints are complete and sharp. The crystal is clear and shows no disturbing scratches. The hands are complete and undamaged.

The case shows light scratches on the bezel and flanks. The case back is scratched, but the embossing remains fully legible. The metal bracelet shows significant signs of wear; the end links do not sit flush with the case along their entire width.

The original "Water Resist" marking refers to the watch's condition when new. Due to its age and untested seals, no current water resistance is guaranteed. To protect the movement, the watch should not come into contact with water or moisture.
