Russia leather is a high-quality, finely tanned, dark leather from Eastern Europe. It is soft, supple, and durable and is made from cattle hides. Tanning is done with vegetable tannins from tree, oak, and chestnut bark.

The tanning process takes several weeks and gives the leather its color and suppleness. Dyeing is done with natural dyes, and the leather is sometimes treated with oils and waxes.
