Rogatis Quartz – Two-Tone Case with Black Dial – Japanese Ladies' Watch with New Leather Strap

Japanese Private Label Brands as a Collecting Area

Alongside Seiko, Citizen, and Orient, Japan had a wide field of private label brands for decades that purchased movements and designed only cases and dials. Rogatis is one of them: sold through department stores and specialized shops, without its own movement manufacturing, without a catalog archive.

These brands are not recorded in any reference literature. Collectors work exclusively with the objects themselves — which is what makes them appealing and simultaneously leaves the market unobserved. They are indispensable for understanding the Japanese watch landscape of the eighties: they show what designs were actually sold outside the big houses.

Design

A deep black dial, on which only gold-colored elements are placed. The hour markers change rhythmically: slender applied baton indices and small round dots alternate, forming a wreath that, upon closer inspection, is more irregular than it appears from a distance.

The ROGATIS lettering is below 12 o'clock, QUARTZ above 6 o'clock. The hands are gold-colored — the hour hand in a wide Dauphine shape, the minute hand as a narrow baton, the second hand as a hairline.

The case is bicolor and contrasts the two tones: a matted, silver-colored outer part with eight suggested edges, within it a polished gold-colored ring around the dial, plus four gold-colored lug caps and a gold-colored crown. The black crocodile-embossed leather strap is new.

Please note: The gold-colored parts are plated, not made of solid gold.

Dating

Dating is not possible. The case back has no serial number, and there is no known dating system for Rogatis. The construction, bicolor finish, and dial design suggest the 1980s. We provide this as an indication, not as a confirmed dating.

Condition and Origin

The watch comes from Japan and was inspected and fitted with a new battery before sale.

It is a used original item. The dial is complete; all indices and dots are secure, the printing is without flaws. The hands are straight and undamaged.

In the upper left area of the glass, approximately between the 10 and 11 o'clock positions, there is a fine curved scratch mark, which is visible in the product photos.

The gold-colored plating is worn on the lug caps and the case edge; the base material shows through there. This wear is clearly visible in the bottom views. The steel back shows circumferential grinding marks, the embossing is legible. The crown is functional. The black leather strap is new.

The actual condition is shown unretouched in the product photos.

For whom?

For slender wrists, for whom 27.5 millimeters are suitable. For wearers who prefer a black dial to a silver one — a significantly rarer option for small watches. And for collectors of Japanese private label brands outside the major houses, at a price that honestly reflects the wear.
