Rooster Chronograph RS-1001 – Limited Edition 323/500 – Japan (unworn)
Rooster Chronograph RS-1001 – Limited Edition 323/500 – Japan (unworn)
An unusual chronograph from the Japanese micro-brand Rooster, which immediately catches the eye with its technically designed dial featuring visible gears and its massive case architecture.
The watch belongs to the strictly limited series of only 500 pieces worldwide and bears the individual number 323/500, engraved on the case back.
The design combines elements of classic chronographs with a deliberately mechanical-looking, partially skeletonized dial design that is reminiscent of open movements.
Background of the brand Rooster and IDA Watch
The brand Rooster is a private label of the Japanese company IDA Watch (井田時計店) from Yokohama.
The company's origins date back to 1903 (Meiji period), when Ida Tomotaro founded a watch shop in Yokohama-Motomachi. This traditional watch trade later developed into a small design brand that produces its own watches under the name Rooster.
The brand's goal was to offer design-oriented watches with Japanese technology at moderate prices while implementing unusual design approaches. This deliberately combines classic forms with striking details, such as special dial architectures or distinctive bezels.
The Rooster logo – a stylized weathervane (風見鶏) – can be found on the brand's dials and symbolically refers to the brand's origin in the port and commercial district of Yokohama.
The watches were produced in small series and are relatively rare outside of Japan.
Movement
The RS-1001 most likely uses a Japanese quartz chronograph movement from the Miyota-OS series (Citizen Group).
The architecture of the dial corresponds exactly to the layout of the Miyota Caliber 0S20, one of the most commonly used chronograph movements in micro-brands.
Typical technical data of this movement:
- Manufacturer: Miyota (Citizen Group, Japan)
- Caliber: 0S20 Chronograph
- Accuracy: approx. ±20 seconds per month
- Battery life: approx. 5 years
- Battery: SR927W / Renata 399
- Functions:
- central chronograph second
- 60-minute chronograph
- small second
- 24-hour display
- date display
The Miyota caliber is considered very robust, low-maintenance and reliable and is used worldwide in many independent brands.
Design
Particularly characteristic of the RS-1001 is the technically designed dial, which shows several decorative gears and thus conveys the impression of an open movement.
Further striking elements:
- large bezel with Roman numerals
- multi-stage case with four additional functional crowns
- high-contrast blue chronograph hands
- elaborately designed totalizers
This combination ensures a very instrument-like, mechanical look, although it is a quartz watch.
