Seiko 1194 - Early Post-War Dress Watch (January 1953)

This very rare and exceptional early Seiko from January 1953 is an impressive example of Japanese watchmaking in the immediate post-war period. It comes from a phase in which Seiko began to reposition itself technically and aesthetically – with the aim of achieving international standards.

The two-tone dial with its warm patina, developed over decades, gives the watch remarkable depth. The lighter central area is framed by a darker outer ring, creating an elegant, almost three-dimensional effect. The applied Arabic numerals and indices show authentic aging, which particularly emphasizes the vintage character of this watch.

The small seconds at 6 o'clock and the finely proportioned hands correspond to the classic design language of the early 1950s – reduced, functional, and timelessly elegant.

The stainless steel case is remarkably well preserved for its age and shows the typical, compact lines of this era. In combination with the new high-quality blue leather strap, a harmonious mix of historical substance and modern wearability is created.

Particularly noteworthy is the professional overhaul in Japan in December 2025. This means the watch is technically in excellent condition and suitable for everyday use without restrictions.

In the early 1950s, Seiko was in a crucial phase of reconstruction and realignment. Production was modernized, quality standards were consistently raised, and the foundation was laid for later icons such as Seiko Marvel, Crown, and ultimately Grand Seiko.
