Seiko 5 Actus SS 6106-5440 – Automatic – November 1971 – Original bracelet - freshly serviced

1970s Seiko in its purest form: edgy, technical, and unmistakably Japanese.

This Seiko 5 Actus SS dates from November 1971 and belongs to a phase in which Seiko consciously designed its successful mechanical series to be more modern, sporty, and geometric.

The Actus series was particularly aimed at a younger and more urban clientele. Instead of classic round dress watches, tonneau-shaped and angular cases, bold indices, and integrated-looking steel bracelets appeared.

The Ref. 6106-5440 is a particularly characteristic example of this design phase.

Seiko 5 Actus

"Actus" was a more modern and design-oriented model line within the Seiko 5 family.

Inside, the proven automatic caliber 6106 works. It offers hour, minute, central seconds as well as day and date and belongs to the classic Seiko automatic movements of the early 1970s.

The Actus series is an exemplary representation of the phase in which Seiko combined mechanical reliability with a significantly more progressive design language.

The TV Case

The most striking feature of this watch is its almost square stainless steel case.

The wide case shape, the geometric flanks, and the deeply set black dial create that typical "TV case" look that became popular in both Japan and Europe in the early 1970s.

The black dial features bold applied baton indices. At 3 o'clock is the combined day/date display.

Original Stainless Steel Bracelet

Particularly attractive is the preserved original Seiko steel bracelet.

Especially with vintage Seikos, the original bracelet was often replaced over the decades. Here, the design unity of case and bracelet is preserved.

Dating

The serial number is 1N3510.

According to the usual Seiko serial number system, the watch can be dated to November 1971.

This places it directly in the heyday of mechanical Seiko design of the early 1970s.

Condition and Service

The watch shows age-appropriate signs of wear on the case and bracelet.

The black dial is attractively preserved and, together with the angular case, emphasizes the typical 1970s character.

The watch was acquired from a Japanese watchmaker and has just been freshly serviced.

The condition is shown unretouched in the product photos.
