Seiko 7005-7001 Automatic (Japan, April 1972)

Seiko 7005-7001 Automatic (Japan, April 1972)

17 Jewels | Blue Sunburst Dial | Serviced 2025 | Vintage Automatic

This Seiko 7005-7001 Automatic was manufactured in April 1972 (serial number 24xxxx ) and represents the minimalist, functional-modern design of the early 1970s. It belongs to the Seiko Five automatic watch generation, but in the variant without a day-of-the-week display – a rare detail that gives the dial a particularly clear symmetry.

The matte navy blue dial with applied indices and silver date window lends the watch an elegant depth. The model is equipped with the proven Seiko caliber 7005A – a robust 17-jewel automatic movement that allows for both automatic and manual winding.

This watch was serviced in June 2025 and has been running precisely and reliably ever since. The crystal is made of plastic (Plexiglas), and the current dark blue leather strap with blue contrast stitching is not original, but it harmonizes perfectly with the dial.

Historical background

The Seiko 7005 series was introduced in the late 1960s and marked the beginning of flat, precise Seiko automatic movements.
The 7005A caliber was a workhorse in the best sense – reliable, easy to service and precise.
In the 1970s, Seiko used this movement in numerous design variations, including the elegant "no-day" version shown here with understated lines.

Today, these early 7005 models are sought-after collector's items, as they document the transition between the classic Seiko Five era and the modern automatic generation.
