Original SEIKO watchmaker's tool – scarcely available outside Japan.

The conductive (antistatic) work mat A-KTZ003 from SEIKO's professional tool range is the classic work surface for Japanese watchmakers. Its electrical conductivity reliably protects sensitive movement components – especially the circuits of quartz movements – from electrostatic discharge. At the same time, the surface is lightly padded, preventing cases, case backs, and lugs from scratching during work.

What differentiates the SEIKO mat from European work surfaces:

Most watchmaker's work surfaces available in Europe – including the well-known green Swiss classics – are simple plastic or rubber mats without electrical conductivity. In contrast, the SEIKO A-KTZ003 is a genuine conductive ESD mat: Static charge is dissipated before it can reach the sensitive circuitry of a quartz movement. Especially when changing batteries and working on quartz calibers, this is a real technical advantage, not a marketing argument.

In addition: SEIKO produces its tool line primarily for its own service and the Japanese trade – the same tools used to handle SEIKO movements in the factory and in authorized workshops. If you're overhauling Japanese calibers (SEIKO, Citizen, Orient), you're working with the mat designed for that purpose. This tool program is not regularly distributed in Europe.

In Japan, the mat is a standard tool for battery changes, overhauls, and general repair work, and is part of the official tool list for the national watchmaking examination (時計修理技能検定, levels 3 to 1). The muted green color is easy on the eyes and makes small parts, screws, and springs easy to spot.
