Seiko ALBA ACCK405 - Studio Ghibli "Kiki's Delivery Service", Jiji - unworn in original packaging with Japanese warranty card

Ghibli Watches as a Collecting Field

Seiko has been producing official Studio Ghibli watches under the ALBA brand for years. These are not merchandise items in the usual sense, but regular watches with a Seiko movement, Hardlex glass, and a cowhide leather strap, featuring licensed artwork on the dial.

They are sold almost exclusively in the domestic Japanese market, in small production runs and over limited time periods. Once a series is discontinued, it disappears from the market; there is no reprint. This model was released in 2016 and has not been available in stores for years.

For European collectors, this is the real challenge: the watches were never distributed here. Those looking for them must rely on the Japanese second-hand market – and there, they will encounter almost exclusively pre-owned items without packaging.

Design

A white dial with a full set of Arabic numerals from 1 to 12 in a round, friendly font, bordered by a fine dot minute track on the outside.

Jiji sits in the center of the dial: the black cat with the red bow, upright, with the characteristic large white eyes. The figure is not printed over the dial but is fitted into the arrangement of the numbers – the tail leads to the bottom right toward the 4, so that the hands do not obscure the figure as they rotate, but rather frame it.

The round brass case is gold-colored with a polished edge. The brown cowhide leather strap with a light-colored seam and a gold-colored pin buckle matches the warm tonality.

Dating

The serial number 620070 follows the Seiko system: the first digit indicates the last digit of the year, the second the month. This results in February 2016 – in accordance with the documented release year of the series.

The enclosed warranty card from a Seiko store lists the purchase date as July 8, 2016.

Condition and Provenance

The watch was purchased new at a Seiko store and remains in its unopened original packaging.

It is unworn. The dial, hands, glass, case, and strap are free of any signs of use. The clear packaging is complete and undamaged.

Included are the original packaging and the Japanese warranty card filled out by the seller. Please note: The Japanese manufacturer's warranty is tied to the Japanese service center and cannot be claimed in Europe. Your legal rights toward us remain unaffected.
