Seiko Kinetic Titanium Scuba 200 m – Ref. 5M63-0B40 – Caliber 5M63, titanium, diver's bezel – June 2006
A titanium diver’s watch that charges itself and never needs a battery.
How Kinetic works
Inside this watch sits a rotor—the same semicircular piece of metal that winds the mainspring in an automatic watch. Here, however, it powers a tiny generator. The electricity generated is stored in a rechargeable capacitor and powers a quartz movement.
The result combines the best of both worlds: the accuracy of a quartz watch with the power source of an automatic. No battery changes, no manual winding routine—you wear the watch, and it charges itself.
Seiko introduced this technology in 1986 and continued to develop it over decades. The caliber 5M63 installed here belongs to the mature generation with a power reserve of several months.
The power reserve can be checked. A press of the button at two o'clock causes the second hand to jump to the scale between “RESERVE” and “FULL” to display the charge level. It then returns to normal timekeeping.
Titanium
The case, bezel, and bracelet are made of titanium. This means three things: significantly lower weight than stainless steel for the same size, no nickel release—relevant for those with sensitivities to stainless steel—and a matte, grey finish that looks different from polished steel.
The entire watch, including the bracelet, weighs 92 grams with a diameter of 40.1 mm and a height of 13.1 mm. A comparable steel watch would be significantly heavier.
Diver’s watch
The case back bears the AIR DIVER'S 200m engraving as well as the wave motif Seiko uses to identify its diver’s watches.
It includes the standard features: a unidirectional rotating bezel with a luminous dot at zero, which can only be adjusted counter-clockwise—ensuring that accidental movement never shortens the measured dive time—a screw-down crown at four o'clock, and indices and hands generously coated with luminous material.
The dial is deep black with a fine grain; the hour markers are designed as round and rectangular luminous dots. The calendar window at three o'clock shows the day of the week and date, and the day wheel is bilingual in Kanji and English—a sign that the watch was built for the Japanese market.
Condition
Functional; time display, calendar, power reserve indicator, and rotating bezel work perfectly. The watch was checked by a watchmaker in Japan in the spring/summer of 2026. [Please add: Capacitor replaced yes/no, measured power reserve, seals.]
A word on the energy storage, as it is the most important point with Kinetic watches: the capacitor loses capacity over the years. This should be taken into account for a 2006 watch—a replacement is possible at any time, costs little, and restores the full power reserve.
The dial is clean, the lettering is complete and sharp, and the luminous material on the indices and hands is even and intact. The crystal is clear.
The case, bezel, and bracelet show normal signs of use; titanium picks up fine scratches more easily than stainless steel, but it also masks them better visually. All engravings on the case back are complete and clearly legible.
The original Seiko titanium bracelet is mounted—which is difficult to source individually for this model today.

Target audience
For those looking for a watch you don’t have to worry about. No battery changes, no daily winding, quartz accuracy—you put it on and it runs.
For sensitive wrists: titanium is nickel-free and light. 92 grams for a 200-meter diver's watch including the bracelet is a figure rarely matched by any steel watch.
For vacations, sports, and workshop use—anywhere you would rather leave a mechanical vintage watch at home.
And for collectors of Japanese watches who want to add a piece of recent Seiko history to their vintage collection. Kinetic was Seiko's unique answer to the question of how to run a quartz watch without a battery—and no other brand has pursued this path with such consistency.
Warranty (used)
This is a used item. The limitation period for claims for defects (statutory warranty) is 12 months from delivery.
Note
The factory-stated water resistance of 200 m refers to when the watch was new. Since seals age and a pressure test has not been performed, water resistance cannot be guaranteed. To protect the movement, the watch should not come into contact with water or moisture.
