Seiko LM Special 5206-6020 – Jan. 1971 – Daini Hi-Beat, Original Bracelet, Serviced

Seiko LM Special 5206-6020 – Jan. 1971 – Daini Hi-Beat, Original Bracelet, Serviced

A cut above the ordinary Lord Matic: This Seiko LM Special (Ref. 5206-6020) from January 1971 is the higher-quality "Special" execution of Seiko's upscale Lord-Matic line – with a finer finish, sharper movement regulation, and, most notably, a significantly faster hi-beat movement. Delivered on the original Seiko stainless steel bracelet with a signed "SEIKO LM" clasp.

What makes the "Special" special – and the King Seiko/Grand Seiko connection: While the standard Lord-Matic uses the Suwa Caliber 5606 with 21,600 vibrations/hour, the LM Special carries the Daini Caliber 5206 with 28,800 vibrations/hour (Hi-Beat) – the same high-frequency technical philosophy that Daini employed in its top models. This is where the exciting movement history lies: Seiko manufactured in two competing factories – Daini Seikosha (home of King Seiko) and Suwa Seikosha (home of Grand Seiko). This internal competition pushed both to peak performance. The LM Special originates from the Daini side and, as collectors emphasize, was partly built to the same manufacturing standards as King Seiko. The 5200 architecture was so good that Seiko revived it in the 1990s for the high-quality 4S series. Within the hierarchy, the LM Special sits directly below King Seiko and Grand Seiko – excellent KS/GS kinship at a fraction of the price.

The Movement: The Caliber 5206A is a high-frequency automatic movement with additional manual winding and hacking seconds, 23 jewels, 28,800 bph, and a bilingual day/date display (Kanji/English) with quick-set function – features that were reserved for upscale Seiko models at the time.

Appearance: The silver sunburst dial with applied, faceted indices, applied "SEIKO" logo, "LM Special 23 Jewels" signature, slender hands, and central seconds hand appears elegant and clear; day and date are displayed in the window at 3 o'clock. The tonneau-shaped, polished stainless steel case is typical of early 1970s design philosophy.

Condition and Service: The watch is in good to very good, original condition with a clear, beautiful dial; the case shows light, typical signs of wear. It was professionally and completely serviced in Japan in spring 2026 (complete disassembly, cleaning, oiling, regulation – photographically documented) and purchased directly from the watchmaker; it runs perfectly. It comes on the original Seiko stainless steel bracelet with a signed "SEIKO LM" clasp – a beautiful and valuable bonus for these models.

Measurements: Case diameter approx. 35 mm (without crown), lug-to-lug 39.2 mm, height 9.6 mm, lug width 18 mm. Weight including original bracelet approx. 77 g.
