Seiko Lord Matic 5606-8110 – Automatic – July 1975 – green textured dial – freshly serviced

A Lord Matic from the expressive second half of the 1970s – with a dial that almost completely changes its character depending on the incidence of light.

This Seiko Lord Matic ref. 5606-8110 dates to July 1975 and belongs to the particularly distinctive later models of the LM series.

The dial shimmers between dark green, olive, and almost black anthracite. Its geometric surface texture is particularly unusual: the central area and the side sections are brushed differently, creating clearly defined color fields depending on the viewing angle.

Combined with the bold applied indices and the wide day-date window, this creates a design that could hardly be mistaken for a European watch from the same era.

The Lord Matic Tradition

Seiko introduced the Lord Matic in the late 1960s as a high-quality mechanical model family for the Japanese market. It was positioned below King Seiko and Grand Seiko, but already offered numerous technical features that went far beyond an ordinary automatic Seiko.

The Suwa Lord Matic models used movements from the 56xx family. This movement family was also used in higher-grade versions for King Seiko and Grand Seiko. The 5606 features automatic winding, manual winding, hacking seconds, and a bilingual day-date calendar. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour.

In the early 1970s, the initially rather classic Lord Matic became increasingly experimental: colored dials, faceted crystals, and unusually shaped cases became a hallmark of the series.

The Caliber 5606A

The 56xx family is one of the most important mechanical movement families from Seiko of that era. However, a well-known design weakness is the original plastic part for the calendar quick-set mechanism; therefore, the quick-set should generally not be operated while the calendar is switching during the night.

Design

The stainless steel case is flat and wide, combining polished flanks with clearly defined surfaces.

The watch measures 36.6 mm without the crown and has very balanced proportions with a lug-to-lug distance of 41.6 mm.

The multi-colored appearing green dial is particularly striking. Gold-colored or warm-toned applied indices and hands provide a sharp contrast to the cool stainless steel case.

The watch features a 9-facet crystal which shows only minor signs of wear.

At 3 o'clock sits the framed day-date window.

The watch is delivered on the original Seiko stainless steel bracelet, which fully preserves the typical overall impression of the 1970s.

Dating

The serial number 570830 dates the watch to July 1975 according to the standard Seiko system.

This also corresponds to the known production period of ref. 5606-8110; currently documented examples of this reference also originate from 1975.

Condition and Servicing

The watch shows visible signs of wear on the case and bracelet consistent with its age. The polished areas in particular show the scratches typical of a roughly 50-year-old timepiece.

The green dial is attractively preserved and reveals its unusual structure particularly clearly depending on the light.

The watch was freshly serviced in Japan in the spring of 2026.
