Seiko Lord Matic 5606-8130 – newly serviced in Japan – rare smoke gradient dial & faceted crystal, circa 1975

Seiko Lord Matic 5606-8130 – newly serviced in Japan – rare smoke gradient dial & faceted crystal, circa 1975

One of the most coveted Lord-Matic versions: a Seiko Lord Matic (LM) "23 Jewels", Ref. 5606-8130 in superb condition, with a spectacular smoke/gradient dial (fumé) and striking triple-faceted crystal – the rare combination particularly sought after by collectors within the LM series.

Lord Matic – the elegant tier below King Seiko and Grand Seiko: Introduced in 1968, the Lord Matic was deliberately positioned directly below King Seiko and Grand Seiko. All three lines in the 56xx generation shared the same Suwa movement architecture and differed primarily in accuracy standards and finishing; the 5606 movement was considered so successful that Seiko also used the 56xx base in automatic King Seiko (5625/5626) and Grand Seiko (5645/5646) models. The lightning "S" on the dial indicates production at the Suwa factory.

The highlights of this watch: The smoke-gradient dial shifts from a bright, silvery center to strongly darkened, smoky-anthracite edges – a dramatic "degradé" effect that appears completely different depending on the light. Above it sits the original triple-faceted crystal, which refracts light at its edges, adding depth and a prismatic sparkle to the dial. Both features together – rare gradient dial and faceted crystal – clearly elevate this model above the simpler LM versions.

The movement: At only 4.45 mm, the caliber 5606A is one of the thinnest automatic movements of its time: 23 jewels, 21,600 vibrations/hour, automatic with additional manual winding and hacking seconds, bilingual day/date display (Japanese/English) with quick-set function, and approximately 45 hours of power reserve. It was professionally and completely serviced in Japan in spring 2026 (complete disassembly, cleaning, oiling, regulation – photographically documented) and purchased directly from the watchmaker; it runs perfectly.

About the watch itself: The sharp-edged stainless steel case is in superb condition. The monobloc case back (opening via the crystal) bears the reference 5606-8130 and the serial number 504202 / Japan J. The watch comes with a new black leather strap (genuine leather, crocodile embossed).

Measurements: Diameter approx. 36.1 mm (without crown), Lug-to-Lug 40.8 mm, Height 10.9 mm, Lug width 18 mm. Weight including strap approx. 51 g.

This vintage watch is not (or no longer) waterproof; water resistance is not guaranteed. To protect the movement and leather strap, the watch should not come into contact with water or moisture.
