Design and background
The Lord Matic (LM) series was introduced in the late 1960s as an upper-middle-class watch positioned between the Seiko 5 and the King/Grand Seiko models. It was aimed at discerning buyers who sought high-quality craftsmanship and precise technology but could do without chronometer certification.
The installed caliber 5606A comes from the Daini factory and was known for its high reliability and technical sophistication: It features quick-set day and date , stop-seconds function and the possibility of manual winding – all features that were previously reserved only for the top lines.
Historical context
The Lord Matic was created during a time of intense rivalry between the two Seiko factories:
-
Daini Seikosha , responsible for the King Seiko and the Lord Matic ,
-
Suwa Seikosha , producer of the Grand Seiko and many Seiko 5 Sports models.
This internal competition led to an unprecedented refinement of Japanese watchmaking. Models like the 5606-7280 mark the pinnacle of mechanical development before the quartz revolution and demonstrate how Seiko perfectly combined precision, elegance, and everyday usability.
Condition
In excellent original condition with minimal signs of wear. The dial is flawless, and the case edges are sharp. The crystal is original, clear, and displays the distinctive triple-faceted design. The new black leather strap perfectly complements the elegant overall look.
