The "19 Seiko"

The large Seiko railway watches are known in Japan to this day among collectors by the designation 19セイコー – 19 Seiko.

The name refers to the classic 19-ligne pocket watch format and designates a model family whose basic principle was used for decades in professional railway service.

Seiko had been supplying pocket watches to the Japanese railway since 1929.

The design was technically developed over the decades, while the uncompromisingly legible design remained remarkably consistent.

Second Setting – A Special Railway Function

The actual technical highlight is the Second-Setting function.

These railway models do not merely feature a conventional stop-second. In certain versions, the second hand continues to run to the zero position after pulling the crown and then stops there.
