Seiko Presage HCC006J1 - Classic Series Craftsmanship Urushi Lacquer Dial

The Seiko Presage HCC006 is a modern tribute to the 1913 Seiko Laurel – Japan's first wristwatch. The deep black Urushi dial with golden numerals in Kaga-Maki-e technique interprets the historic model in a particularly artistic way. Each layer of lacquer is applied by hand, giving each dial its own subtle depth and unmistakable character.

Urushi Master – Traditional Craftsmanship from Echizen and Kanazawa

The dial is created under the supervision of the renowned Urushi master Isshu Tamura. It is crafted by Toshikazu Tsuji, his daughter Mitsuki Tsuji, and their team, who carefully apply each layer of lacquer by hand. The Tsujis' work is rooted in the traditional Echizen-Urushi craftsmanship, one of Japan's oldest lacquer traditions. Mitsuki Tsuji further expands her skills by studying with Tamura in Kanazawa, where the refined Kaga-Maki-e technique is cultivated. This combination of tradition, precision, and multi-generational expertise gives each dial its special depth and the warm golden sheen of the hand-applied Maki-e embellishments.

Design and Craftsmanship

The black Urushi dial features golden numerals in Kaga-Maki-e style, applied by hand, which appear with varying intensity depending on the light. The sub-dial at 6 o'clock displays a 24-hour cycle and serves to visually balance the historical layout.

The gold-colored case emphasizes the warm character of the dial and features a durable Super-Hard-Coating surface. A dual-curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inside ensures a clear view of the dial. The transparent case back reveals the mechanical movement in full operation.

Inside, the automatic caliber 6R5H operates with manual winding capability and a hacking function.
