Seiko Presage HCC006J1 - Classic Series Craftsmanship Urushi Lacquer Dial
Seiko Presage HCC006J1 - Classic Series Craftsmanship Urushi Lacquer Dial
The Seiko Presage HCC006J1 is a modern homage to the 1913 Seiko Laurel – Japan's first wristwatch. The deep black Urushi dial with golden numerals in the Kaga-Maki-e technique interprets the historical original in a particularly artistic way. Each layer of lacquer is applied by hand, giving every dial its own subtle depth and unmistakable character.

The “Laurel” from 1913
Urushi Masters – traditional craftsmanship from Echizen and Kanazawa
The dial is created under the supervision of renowned Urushi master Isshu Tamura. It is crafted by Toshikazu Tsuji, his daughter Mitsuki Tsuji, and their team, who carefully apply each layer of lacquer by hand. The Tsujis' work is rooted in traditional Echizen Urushi craftsmanship, one of Japan's oldest lacquer traditions. Mitsuki Tsuji further expands her skills by studying under Tamura in Kanazawa, where the delicate Kaga-Maki-e technique is cultivated. This combination of tradition, precision, and cross-generational expertise gives each dial its special depth and the warm golden luster of the hand-laid Maki-e decorations.

Design and workmanship
The black Urushi dial features golden Breguet numerals in Kaga-Maki-e style, which are applied by hand and appear with varying intensity depending on the incidence of light. Matching this, the hands also feature a fine-grained, slightly shimmering gold surface. The sub-dial at 6 o'clock displays the 24-hour indicator: it runs synchronously with the main time (not a second time zone) and serves the visual balance of the historical layout. A date window was intentionally omitted.
The yellow gold-colored plated stainless steel case emphasizes the warm character of the dial. A dual-curved sapphire crystal with an internal anti-reflective coating ensures a clear view of the dial. The screw-down exhibition case back shows the mechanical movement in full motion.
