Seiko Prospex SSC947P1 – Speedtimer Solar Chronograph "Pogue", Orange

A modern solar chronograph with classic Speedtimer aesthetics – and a color that has made watch history.

The HBJ004P1 is part of the Prospex Speedtimer series, which has continued Seiko’s chronograph tradition since 1964. Its orange sunray dial pays homage to the legendary Seiko 6139 "Pogue": the first automatic chronograph in space, worn by astronaut William Pogue on his wrist during the 1973 Skylab mission. The Speedtimer 6139, introduced in 1969, was also the world's first automatic chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch. The model combines a robust stainless steel case with the solar caliber V192 and a two-tone aluminum bezel with a tachymeter scale.

Design & Character

The orange dial with black sub-dials ensures a sporty presence and optimal legibility. The two-tone aluminum bezel with tachymeter scale incorporates the defining element of the historic Speedtimer and allows for the calculation of average speeds. Domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inside offers a clear view from every angle, while LumiBrite on the hands and indices ensures readability in the dark. The stainless steel bracelet with a three-fold clasp and push-button release ensures a secure, comfortable fit. Practical for everyday use: the watch displays the solar cell charge level at the touch of a button.
