Seiko Quartz 7N42-8260 – October 2001 – Field dial with luminous material and 24-hour scale – 10 BAR – Serviced early 2026

A field-dial Seiko (with luminous material on the dial) in stainless steel, 10 BAR water-resistant, with the robust quartz caliber 7N42 – and with a service document from Japan. This is the watch for when you simply need a watch that works.

Design and Character

The dial follows the classic field watch logic: large, highly legible Arabic hour numerals in black on a cream-colored background, plus a 24-hour scale on an inner ring – the display originating from military timekeeping that helps when converting between 12- and 24-hour notation. The hands are bold, and the second hand is slender. The date window is positioned between 4 and 5 o'clock. The dial is completely covered in luminous material and glows green in the dark (see photo).

The case is made of stainless steel with a matte finish and sturdy, curved lugs that center the watch neatly on the wrist. The case back bears the signature SEIKO · STAINLESS STEEL · WATER RESISTANT 10BAR · 7N42-8260 · MADE IN JAPAN as well as the serial number 100951, which dates the watch to October 2001.

With a diameter of 37.5 mm, a lug-to-lug of 42.3 mm, and a height of 11.2 mm, it is exactly the right size for a field-dial watch – large enough to read, small enough for a cuff. 46 grams on the new black leather strap, 20 mm lug width.

The Caliber 7N42

Seiko’s 7N series is one of the most widely produced quartz movements in the world and has a reputation not built by marketing: it just runs. The 7N42 is a three-hand movement with a date display, operates at 32,768 Hz, and provides around three years of battery life. Remarkable for a utility quartz movement is the hacking function: when you pull out the crown, the second hand stops, and the watch can be set precisely to the second according to a time signal – a feature that is by no means standard in this price range.

The watch is in good condition with only a few signs of wear. The watch is supplied on a new black leather strap.
