Seiko Quartz Type II (Ref. 4623-8030, October 1976)

Seiko Quartz Type II (Ref. 4623-8030, October 1976)

A classic Seiko Quartz Type II with a green sunburst dial from the mid-1970s. This model exemplifies Seiko's second generation of quartz watches – precise, elegant, and technically groundbreaking.

Historical background

Following the groundbreaking introduction of the first Seiko Quartz Astron in 1969, Seiko set new standards for the mass production of high-precision quartz watches in the early 1970s. The Type II models appeared from 1975 onwards as part of this second stage of development.

While the expensive “Superior” and “Grand Quartz” models were designed for the highest accuracy, the Type II line was aimed at quality-conscious buyers who sought technological advancement in a simpler, more everyday design. It combined outstanding precision, durability, and distinctive 1970s design with Seiko’s characteristic manufacturing quality.

The caliber 4623 used is one of Seiko's early high-accuracy quartz movements with day/date display and automatic quick-set system – robust, low-maintenance and reliable to this day.
