Design and background
The Seiko Chronos series was an elegant sub-line within the quartz collection, emphasizing simple design and maximum everyday usability. Its appearance is firmly rooted in the tradition of the Japanese "Grammar of Design," established by Seiko designer Taro Tanaka in the late 1960s: clean lines, perfect surfaces, and uncompromising legibility.
Particularly striking is the finely structured dial with applied indices and the characteristic red day display – a design detail reminiscent of the early Grand and King Seiko models.
Historical context
Following the groundbreaking introduction of the Seiko Quartz Astron (1969), Seiko set new standards in the mass production of precise quartz watches in the 1980s. Models such as the Chronos combined maximum reliability with an aesthetic inspired by the classic lines of mechanical Seikos – a bridge between tradition and modern technology.
This watch dates back to the time when Seiko began refining quartz technology while simultaneously transitioning to energy-efficient, low-maintenance movements. The Caliber 8123 is among the most durable and robust movements of that era.

The watch is in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear on the case. The dial is exceptionally well preserved, all printing is clear, and the hands are original. The new black Seiko leather strap accentuates the elegant character of this classic timepiece.
