Seiko Quartz Railwayman's Pocket Watch (1982) – Ref. 7550-0010
Rare and historically significant Seiko Railway Pocket Watch (鉄道時計) , made for the Japan National Railways (国鉄 – Kokutetsu) .
This watch was used by train drivers and railway staff of the Hokkaido Railway Division (北釧) in the early 1980s and is one of the sought-after official service watches that Seiko produced exclusively for the Japanese railway network.
Historical background
The following is engraved on the back of the case:
昭57(Shōwa 57)=1982
This means that this specimen was clearly issued in 1982 , i.e. from the late phase of Japan National Railways (JNR), shortly before its dissolution and privatization (JR Group, 1987).
The engraving国鉄北釧stands for "Japan State Railways, Hokkaido District" – a regional designation found only on officially issued models.
Such railway watches were subject to strict precision requirements and had to be regularly tested and certified by Seiko for official train conductors.
