Seiko Quartz Railwayman's Pocket Watch (1983) – Ref. 7550-0010
Rare and historically significant Seiko Railway Pocket Watch (鉄道時計), made for the Japan National Railways (国鉄 – Kokutetsu).
This watch was used by train drivers and railway personnel of the Shin-Tetsu Division (新鉄) in 1983 and is one of the sought-after official service watches that Seiko produced exclusively for the Japanese railway network.
Historical background
The following is engraved on the back of the case:
昭58(Shōwa 58)=1983
This means that this specimen was clearly issued in 1983, i.e. in the late phase of Japan National Railways (JNR), shortly before its dissolution and privatization (JR Group, 1987).
The engraving新鉄Q stands for "Shin-Tetsu Division Q" – a regional division within the Japanese State Railways. It identifies this model as an official service watch issued exclusively to railway personnel.
Such railway watches were subject to strict precision requirements and had to be regularly tested and certified by Seiko for official use.
