Design and background

The QZ series ("Quartz Quality") was developed in the early 1970s as the successor to the first Seiko Astron models and became a symbol of precision and progress in the Japanese market. The clear sunburst dial with finely beveled baton indices follows the design philosophy of Taro Tanaka , Seiko's "Grammar of Design" principle: clean lines, sharp edges, perfect legibility.

The case design of this reference already shows influences of the later Grand Seiko aesthetic of the late 1970s. In the Seiko structure of that time, the QZ series was positioned in the hierarchy immediately below the Grand and King Seiko models – manufactured in both the Suwa and Daini movements , which were engaged in intense technical competition at that time.

Historical context

By 1975, Seiko was already the world leader in quartz technology. Following the launch of the legendary Astron 35SQ in 1969, the company developed more compact, energy-efficient movements. The Caliber 0922 belongs to this second generation of precision quartz movements, which offered not only exceptional accuracy but also longer battery life.

This era also marks the beginning of the legendary Daini vs. Suwa competition , which later led to the masterpieces of the King Seiko and Grand Seiko lines.

Condition

Good, age-appropriate condition with minor signs of wear. The dial is evenly preserved, the crystal shows some small scratches. The new original Seiko strap emphasizes the authentic character of this watch. The movement runs accurately.
