Seiko Solar ladies wristwatch (Ref. 57-010, July 1965)
A very elegant Seiko Solar from the mid-1960s with a delicate silver-colored dial and characteristic Bambi flex bracelet from Japan. This watch represents Seiko's early phase of high-quality ladies' models with the then newly developed Diashock 17-jewel hand-wound movement .
Historical background
The Seiko Solar was introduced in the late 1950s to early 1960s as the successor to the Seiko Merit and was part of a new generation of mechanical ladies' wristwatches characterized by precision and elegant design.
While the name "Solar" later became associated with Seiko's solar-powered quartz models, here it referred to a purely mechanical collection known for its fine, shock-resistant, hand-wound movements. This series also served as a technical showcase for Seiko's miniature caliber production and laid the foundation for the later "Seiko Lady" and "Seiko Lukia" lines.

The compact stainless steel case, the textured Bambi strap, and the finely aged silver dial give the watch an elegant, authentic vintage appeal. The 17-jewel hand-wound movement with Diashock shock protection was a mark of technical quality at the time and demonstrates Seiko's commitment to offering the highest precision, even in women's watches.
Collector's value and significance
The Seiko Solar is considered one of Seiko's last purely mechanical ladies' watch lines before the introduction of the Seiko Lady series. Models in working order with their original Bambi strap are rare today and highly valued by connoisseurs, as they authentically reflect Japanese design and watchmaking culture of the 1960s.
