Seiko Sportsmatic Deluxe 7619-7010 - March 1966 - Diashock 25 Jewels, fluted bezel - Original band - freshly serviced

Within the Sportsmatic series, "Deluxe" marks the higher-end version: 25 jewels instead of 21, a finely fluted bezel instead of a smooth one, and a dial crafted with significantly more effort. This 1966 example comes on its original steel bracelet and has been fully serviced in Japan.

The Sportsmatic Series and the Deluxe Version

In the early 1960s, Seiko introduced the Sportsmatic series: robust automatic watches for daily use. From it emerged the Sportsmatic 5 in 1963, and from that, in turn, the Seiko 5, the most successful mechanical watch line in history.

The Sportsmatic Deluxe was at the top of this family. Its movement operates with 25 jewels and Diashock shock protection, displaying day and date; the day display is bilingual, switching between Japanese Kanji and English abbreviations – a feature that immediately identifies the watch as a Japanese domestic model.

The case back bears the engraving SEIKO · WATER PROOF · S.S. · 7619-7010 with the dolphin insignia, which Seiko used during this period to mark water-resistant cases. The serial number dates the watch to March 1966.

Serviced

The watch was fully overhauled in Japan in spring 2026 and is in perfect condition. For a sixty-year-old automatic, this is the difference between a watch you can wear and one that needs a trip to the watchmaker first.

 

Design and Character

The dial is the real argument for this watch. A calm, silver-gray sunburst finish features applied, multi-faceted indices whose edges sharply refract light; additionally, there is a fine inner rehaut ring that gives the dial a second dimension. In watches of this series, the dial is almost always the part that suffers first – here, it is the part that convinces.

The finely fluted bezel is a defining feature, providing an elaborately crafted frame for the dial and immediately distinguishing the Deluxe version from simpler Sportsmatic models. The day-date window is located at 3 o'clock.

The stainless steel case measures 37.6 mm without the crown, 43 mm lug-to-lug, and 12.7 mm in height – a robust stature, ideal by today's standards. The watch comes on its original Seiko steel bracelet, whose cross-brushed link structure directly conveys the design language of the 1960s; 82 grams give it a solid, valuable feel. For a watch of this age, a preserved original bracelet is anything but a given.

Condition

The watch is in good condition with only moderate signs of wear. The crystal is clear and the dial is very well preserved.  

Operating instructions: The quick adjustment of day and date should not be operated at night while the shifting mechanism is engaged; set the hands to approximately 6 o'clock beforehand.

For anyone who wants a vintage automatic watch on its original bracelet, rather than having to source one. And for buyers for whom an exceptionally well-preserved dial is more important than a flawless case.

This is a used item. The limitation period for defect claims (statutory warranty) is 12 months from delivery.
