Seiko pocket watch ref. 7N01-9A00 – November 1997 – with chain, box and manual – movement newly replaced

A classic silver-look pocket watch, complete with chain, outer box, and instructions – and with a crucial difference from most offerings of this kind: the movement has been completely replaced with a new one.

The case back bears the engraving SEIKO, WATER RESISTANT, BASE METAL, ST. STEEL BACK, reference 7N01-9A00, and identifier 7N0075.

The Reference 7N01-9A00

The 7N01-9A00 is Seiko's classic pocket watch of the quartz era: a simple round case, open dial without a hunter cover, bow and crown at 12 o'clock. It was produced for many years and was sold in Japan as a gift item – often for anniversaries, farewells, and honors.

For buyers today, the appeal lies in the item itself: A pocket watch requires a different habit than a wristwatch. It is pulled out, opened, read, and put back – and it works for occasions where a wristwatch disappears under a cuff.

The quartz caliber 7N01 is a simple, robust three-hand movement from Seiko's standard range.

New Movement

In this watch, the movement was not overhauled, but completely replaced with a new one. For quartz watches of this class, this is the more economically and technically sensible approach: a revised old movement remains an old movement, while a new movement runs with its original tolerances.

Practically, this means you acquire a case with history and technology without history.

Design

The case is highly polished in a silver look and features a narrow, circumferential profile on the edge. The bow is at the top, with the fluted crown below.

The cream-colored dial is calmly structured: black Arabic numerals in a slender serif font, a fine minute track on the edge, matching slender black hands, and a thin second hand. The Seiko lettering is to the right of the dial's center. Readability at arm's length is impeccable – ensured by the dial size of around 38 millimeters for a pocket watch.

The watch comes with its original metal chain with a clip.

Dating

The identifier 7N0075 on the case back follows the usual Seiko system and suggests production in November 1997.

Condition

The dial is clean and free of spots, all imprints are complete. Hands and crystal are undamaged. The case is well-maintained and shows only slight signs of handling; the case back has fine scratches but fully legible engraving.

The movement was completely replaced with a new one in July 2026; the watch is running. The original metal chain is complete and functional.

Included in the delivery are the outer box with a blue satin inlay and the instruction manual.

Please note: The case is made of base metal, only the case back is made of stainless steel.

The original "Water Resistant" marking refers to the new condition of the watch. Due to the age of the gaskets, no current water resistance is guaranteed. To protect the movement, the watch should not come into contact with water or moisture.
